Hello, my name is Olive Bensler, and I am a law student at the University of Alberta. Last night (February 9), while the majority of Law Students' were celebrating the Carbolic Smoke Ball, our dear colleague Hassan Ahmed's apartment caught fire. He made it out alive (with smoke inhalation injuries), the clothes on his back and lost everything, including his computer, textbooks, furniture, car, and more. The building is unstable, and residents have been told they will not be able to retrieve anything. He is now facing the stress of relocating in the middle of the law school semester.

If you haven't had the pleasure of meeting Hassan, he is in the midst of his final year of law school at the University of Alberta. He is currently completing an AUC Internship. Prior to entering law school, he received his BA in Political Science from the University of Calgary, during which he had an internship at the Ministry of the Attorney General in Ontario, working as a case management coordinator. He loves intercultural cooking, poetry, and travelling and even co-founded the Muslim Law Students' Association.
The purpose of this fund is to help with transitional costs that may not be covered by Hassan's car insurance or emergency funding available through the University. The fundraiser goal will be adjusted on Monday once we know more about the availability of emergency funding.
