Hello friends & family,
My name is Brad, and I am coordinating with my buddy Derek to create this fundraiser for our dear friend, Laurie Pettey, who has just been diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Laurie’s precipitous physical decline over the past several months had us all concerned, and our deepest fears were realized with this very recent diagnosis. For those that don’t know, ALS is a progressive and terminal neurologic condition that leaves most patients with rapidly declining function, and only months to live. Laurie and her husband, Galen, have been very close friends since we met at Physical Therapy school at Andrews University in Berrien Springs, MI some 30 years ago.
Laurie has owned a hair salon (Reflections Hair Salon) in Eureka, CA for the past 27 years. Laurie’s kind and calm demeanor combined with her expectational hair care talent brought her a loyal following. Although deeply committed to her work, Laurie’s true passion has been serving the Lord through their local church. Making meals each week for the church or serving in the kitchen at their youth camp are just some of the ways Laurie has shown the love of Christ to others.
Due to a rapid decline in Laurie’s health and function due to ALS, she is being forced to close her hair salon. As you can imagine, the rapidly approaching need for medications, rehabilitation services and in-home care in addition to the loss of income from her business will be a tremendous financial burden for Laurie & Galen. Our hope is that in their time of great need we might gather an army of family and friends devoted to helping in any way we can. Whether it be donating financial resources via this GoFundMe effort on their behalf, or with prayers, cards and messages of encouragement, we can all be a blessing to them in these difficult days! Spread the word!!
Would you please prayerfully consider contributing to this effort as well as any other ways you could be a help and encouragement to Laurie and Galen?
