Laurie Norris - Health and Recovery

WHAT HAPPENED

On August 25th Laurie went into the ICU at Huron Valley Hospital, She had been getting sick since Friday and thought she had the flu.

She went into work, but they sent her home.  The family was worried and Susie and Amy drove to her apartment, heard her moaning. 911 arrived, they got in and couldn’t get a blood pressure read on her, so they rushed her into the hospital.  Her blood sugar was over 1500.

She was in a diabetic ketoacidosis but has since woken up and her blood sugar has stabilized to around 200.

As of Monday, September 2nd - she started steroids to help clear her lungs. Still has a fever and pneumonia, sugar and heart enzymes are elevated. The doctor said she could be experiencing ICU delirium. They are concerned about her brain, but it could be the medication or fever sedation so they have to wait it out to see. Officially the MRI showed no sign of stroke, EEG showed no sign of seizures. She responded to everything the neurologist asked of her.

WHY SHE NEEDS FUNDS

While we hate to ask for funding from friends and family - we've been made aware that many people who love Laurie very much want to see her recovery go smoothly and have asked for this page to be setup in order for them to donate to her - I cannot thank you enough or express how much this means to us.  While the fundraising goal is currently set to $7,500 - this may be updated over time as we evaluate and understand the actual financial stress this situation has created.

Laurie works as hard as she can to make tips at her job, working essentially paycheck to paycheck to pay the bills.  She's already been out of commission for a week and at this point we're unable to tell when/if she will be able to return to waiting tables, which she's done as her primary line of work throughout her life.

While we formulate a plan and evaluate what will and will not be possible for her moving forward - we've become aware that she will need quite a bit of money to manage her everyday needs.

If you would like any other information, updates, or questions about visiting etc - please feel free to reach out to any members of the family.
