Laurice Lanier Road to Recovery Family Support

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Emma Lanier. I am Laurice Lanier’s mother. As of March 27, 2023, Laurice’s health began to decline. After receiving the coronavirus in August 2022, Laurice began suffering from acute daily cases of gout. The gout was extremely crippling to Laurice. She went from working out daily to having issues standing next to the bed in the morning. Laurice took herbal supplements, but nothing seemed to work. Laurice was prescribed allopurinol to assist with the flaring.  After two weeks of consistently taking allopurinol, a severe allergic reaction took over Laurice’s body. Laurice is already stage 3 kidney disease, but due to the allopurinol becoming toxic in her body, Laurice’s kidney function began declining to Stage 4.

Allopurinol began burning and bleeding Laurice’s lips before creating a severe burning and blistering rash all over her body with limited body function.  Internally, Laurice’s liver and kidneys began to fail from the trauma of the allopurinol reaction. The reaction left her liver numbers elevated and the kidneys with injury. Her blood pressure was severely high from the pain and itching.

Vanderbilt University Medical Center has been able to stabilize Laurice’s blood pressure, liver and kidney. Laurice will require consistent care from her Vanderbilt University Medical Center Doctoral Team. They have diagnosed Laurice with DRESS Syndrome. The DRESS Syndrome was created from an allergic reaction to allopurinol.  Laurice has a long road to recovery. She will have to continue Vanderbilt University Medical Center follow-ups with Dermatology, Nephrology, Cardiology and Rheumatology. All of these areas were affected in Laurice’s body.

Laurice is a 1997 graduate of South Side High School, Jackson, TN and received a full scholarship to attend The Juilliard School of Music, New York City that same year. She has been blessed to perform on Broadway, and Opera Houses and always comes back home to Jackson, TN to be a blessing for many. Laurice never forgets her beloved Jackson, TN. Laurice moved back to Jackson, TN to serve as a caretaker for her mother, father and her daughter, health-wise and financially. Laurice is a mother of an 18-year-old senior preparing to go to college. I am a post-liver and post-kidney, while her father is a retired pastor with Alzheimer’s.
