Lauren’s Brain Tumor Battle

The Battle

This GoFundMe is being initiated for our dearest friend/family member, Lauren “Lola” Ellison. On November 28th, 2021, at age 36, she unexpectedly had a Gran Mal seizure while she was home alone. Amazingly, she was on the phone with her angel friend as it happened. Later that evening, she was diagnosed with a Glioma brain tumor. This diagnosis not only rocked her world but everyone around her. If you know her, she is a light in all our lives. Since then, it has been an immense rollercoaster ride with much uncertainty. But, she has bravely navigated all her doctor’s appointments/tests, losing her driver’s license/independence, balancing seizure medications, and overall, what the future holds for her.

The Plan

On March 25th, her neurosurgeon performed a successful 6-hour brain surgery. However, he could only remove a third of the tumor (otherwise, her language and motor centers would have been severely impacted). We were beyond happy when we later found out that Pathology determined that she has a non-cancerous Grade II Oligodendroglioma (doctors reiterated that out of all the tumors to have, this is the one to have). But, since only a part of the tumor could be resected, she must undergo chemotherapy and radiation treatment. This little sucker must be removed!!

As of today, she has completed 1 out of 12 cycles of chemotherapy. She will also undergo 6 weeks of Proton Radiation Therapy (starting August 1st) at the California Protons Cancer Therapy Center in San Diego. Proton Radiation is a cutting-edge treatment known for being highly effective, and it causes less damage to surrounding healthy tissue.
