She is a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend. You can always count on Lauren to stand up for what she believes in and behind those she loves. She is a badass woman and I am so grateful that I can call her friend.
It was quite by accident that Lauren's cancer was found. While having a CT scan related to another health condition, the radiologist noted 'numerous nodules' in the base of her lungs..After several tests and biopsies, Lauren was diagnosed with Stage IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer. (Lauren was a social/occasional smoker back in the day and has not smoked in 15+ years)
Because the cancer had spread to the lymph, surgery to remove the cancer is not an option. The current treatment plan will be a life long process of managing and working to prevent the cancer from spreading outside the lungs. Her oncologist is optimistic. Lauren does meet the criteria for Targeted Therapy. She has started on Gilotrif. It is a new medication that targets specific enzymes that help regulate cell growth. Unfortunately, as with any medication, there can be some pretty brutal side effects.
Lauren is handling this diagnosis with grace, and has such a positive attitude. In spite of insurance, medical and daily living expenses are growing!
Terri Whitley and I wanted to set up a way that people who love and support Lauren could help ease the financial stress of this devastating diagnosis.
Please consider donating to help with Lauren's medical expenses. Thank you for your support.
