Hello everyone! My name is Lauren (Hagans) Paquette and I am a professional distance runner based out of Memphis, Tennessee!
I am training really hard to make the US Olympic Team in the 5,000-meter event this summer in Rio de Janeiro. So far, I have hit the Olympic "A" Standard (15:24.00) which you need to run to be considered for the team. That's just the first step: then, I need to place top 3 in the US Olympic Trials which are held this July 10th in Eugene, Oregon. So far I have run 15:14.45 for 5k, and have also run fast in other events! (800: 2:02, 1500: 4:09, Mile: 4:30, 3k: 8:57).
I am sponsored by a local running store, Breakaway Running, and Brooks Running shoe company. I am beyond grateful to these two companies who are supporting me!! Resources and funds are hard to come by in this sport, and I am now asking the community if they would be willing to further help me finance my Olympic dream.
Money donated to my GoFundMe page will be spent towards those things that keep me healthy and well-nourished, keep me comfortable and confident while training and traveling, and allow me to just get to these meets at all! A lot goes in to competing at the highest level in this sport. Specific uses and average cost breakdown are listed below:
Sports massage/physio to stay injury-free ($200/month)
Flights to meets ($2000-3000)
Accommodation at races ($200-400/race depends on length of stay and availability)
Rental car if needed for transport ($150-200/race if needed)
Healthy Food/sports nutrition ($400-500/month)
European circuit summer races: ($4000)
I have been training since running collegiately at Baylor University and have dealt with a lot of obstacles along the way, mostly from injuries, sickness, and coaching changes. I have always been goal-oriented; some goals have been achieved, some have not. I switched from the middle-distance events to the 5,000-meter run just this year! This is my first year to hit an Olympic Standard in any event, and I'm really excited about it because I feel that I still have a lot more gas left in the tank and am looking forward to even faster times and better performances!! This means so much to me because it is something I have been striving for the last few years and giving myself the best shot possible at making an Olympic team would just be a dream come true!
You can follow along with me on Instagram and Twitter! I do not have a facebook account, but my husband does! His name is Max Paquette.
