Hello, everyone!
For those who don't know me, my name is Laura. I'm the Social Media Manager and Adoptions Coordinator for Street Hearts BG.
In the autumn of 2025, I took on the care of Cara, a Street Heart who had previously been adopted by the wonderful Vicki Timms. Cara absolutely adored Vicki, and the feeling was mutual. Vicki gave Cara the most loving home, doted on her endlessly, and Cara truly was her everything.
Sadly, Vicki was living with terminal cancer. As her illness progressed, she became increasingly worried about what would happen to Cara when she could no longer care for her. Over time, Vicki became a friend, and I made her a promise: when the time came, I would take Cara in and make sure she was safe and loved.
That time came in October 2025, and sadly, Vicki passed away in November.
Vicki was a wonderful woman: kind, loving, incredibly strong, and with a brilliant sense of humour. Her passing has affected me deeply, but inspired by her strength, I want to do something positive in her memory rather than dwell only on the sadness.
So, I'm training to run 10K in honour of Vicki, and to raise funds for Street Hearts BG, the rescue that brought Cara into her life.
My goal is to raise £2,000:
- £1,000 will go towards sponsoring a pen in Vicki and Cara's names.
- £1,000 will go directly to supporting the shelter and helping more dogs like Cara.
I'm currently back in training, building up my running again. It's going to take me a little while, and I've decided not to take part in a big organised race (the idea of running in crowds with lots of people watching honestly stresses me out!). Instead, I'll be training in my own time and completing a 10K run locally, most likely along the Longdendale Trail (which is 10.4km).
(Don't worry! I'll be tracking it on Strava so you know I'm not faking it!)
If you’re able to donate, share, or support in any way, it would mean so much, not just to me, but to the dogs who rely on Street Hearts BG.
Thank you for helping me honour Vicki’s memory and continue the love she gave to Cara.
