Laurans Cancer Healing Journey
Hi
Thank you for taking time to read my page and letting me share this part of my healing journey with you. I’m Lauran, I’m 24 from East Sussex and am healing naturally from a rare form of cancer the doctors tell me there is no cure for-metastatic paraganglioma.
I’m looking to raise money so I can travel to journey with, receive and learn about natural forms of healing and medicine that I believe will heal me of cancer and life through the nurturing of mind, body and spirit, as well as providing me with a chance to give back to those who have supported me along the way and then using all I have learnt to help people going through similar experiences.
I am so pleased to be able to share my following plans with you as for me writing this marks a huge step in my journey, with all I have been through I am proud I feel capable of stepping onto this next phase. I have gone without formal treatment now since September 2014 after I decided against the use of all synthetic ‘medicines’. I have done so much to improve myself and my quality of life naturally that I actually feel healthier then I did since before my diagnosis, this is why I have been inspired to create a fund page so I can further heal and show people the true magic that exists inside our selves.
This is an amazing platform to share my dreams and hopefully have them fulfilled, with the kindness and support of family, friends and strangers. I hope that with all I have said, you will see my true intention to heal and help others to do the same.
Below I have laid out the journeys, medicines, experiences and natural treatments that I believe will lead to my total healing through the nurturing of mind, body and spirit. Following that I have further written about my story and journey with my illness if you would like to know about me in a bit more detail.
I hope that these journeys will lead to my total healing, a greater understanding of myself and the world around me and the miracles that I can create and can be seen in every day life. I want to explore nature, live a natural lifestyle, meet with natural healers, experience natural medicines and alternative cancer treatments, visit sacred sights, immerse into different cultures but above all learn about and find the tools to heal and find healing through the journey so I can help others to do the same. Although there is no medical cure for my cancer, through the power of my self and these natural methods I believe I will find resolution or at least be set upon the right path to finding healing.
Healing journey plan so far…*
Journey one; UK and USA.
High doses of vitamin c intravenously with the possibility of incorporating other alternative cancer treatment(s). This journey is a work in progress, at the moment I am waiting to be referred to a doctor at the London Homeopathic hospital who is a leader in alternative treatments for cancer, once I have had my initial consultation I will know more as to the extent of these treatments available to me. Having said that if for some reason it is not possible to meet with her specifically, I want to pursue vitamin c as part of my treatment plans anyway. I have put a lot of research in to this and I know it is available in the UK, it is just a case of finding the right person who will treat me properly and ensure I receive the correct dosage and quality medicine. From what I have found there are also complimentary therapies that can work alongside this such as doses of UV and immune stimulating treatments. I have been advised this may mean attending a private clinic or journeying to the USA so that I can receive the correct medical care and guidance as well as the important knowledge of rare cancers such as metastatic paraganglioma.
Journey two; Spain.
My boyfriend and I would like to work and live here for a while so that I can obtain medicinal cannabis oil. As you may know there is ever increasing evidence to support its ability to heal cancer completely without damaging any other part of the body. We have studied the work of Rick Simpson, an advocate of the benefits of cannabis oil, who suggests 60g over a 90-day course, following that with a maintenance dose of 1g a month. It shouldn’t take too long to find this medicine here and where the cost of living is quite cheap, my boyfriend would be able to work and take care of me while I go through the treatment. There are organisations we can contact who can guide us to finding medicine grade oil from respected and trusted sources. We plan to spend around 4 months in Spain, 1 month to explore, find a home to rent and source the medicine and the other three months healing. Meanwhile we can grow plants in return to give back to those who have helped us so that they can produce more oil to help others in similar situations to mine.
Journey three; Malaysia.
Tai chi has been a formal part of my life for a while now and through my local teacher, my boyfriend and I recently met with a female tai chi master who we spent some time with learning a tai chi sword form. With her husband she owns a world-renowned tai chi training school in Malaysia, which I would love to become a student of for a few weeks. When I do tai chi I experience a real energy change and shift within myself, I believe it has had a great affect on my healing process and would love to share my experience with others. Tai chi has been used in Chinese medicine to treat patients for centuries and has proven medicinal benefits and so an opportunity to learn tai chi from a true master would be incredible and I can then use this art to heal myself and others.
Journey four; St Lucia.
My ancestral home, birthplace of my father’s parents. I have never been and I would like to unlock this hidden part of myself and walk on the same land as my elders have before me. It feels integral to me to explore my ancestry, I believe it will provide healing as my mind and body are able to rest and I can also explore their natural ways of healing whilst exploring hidden parts of my self. I believe in past lives having an effect on my life today and I would like to see if visiting St Lucia unveils any truths that may also lead to my healing. For me it is important that I live there as my grandparents would have in beautiful simplicity and get to know the culture of the people, becoming immersed in to their community. I would also like to help the locals in ways I can. Before I became ill I taught a children’s art class for a while and so if there is an opportunity to do something like this there that would be amazing. I am going to try and contact the correct organisations in St Lucia so that hopefully I am able to give back in some way and learn more about the healing practices of the people who live here-my family.
Journey five; South America. Peru, Ecuador.
I have read many fascinating stories of the shamans and their local practices for medicine and healing, as well as the history of Peru and surrounding countries. To many, they are seen to have areas of sacral importance and often visited by people from around the world who seek all forms of healing. There are a few retreats here that offer immersive courses for healing which incorporate some of the techniques that I have been exploring with a typical day consisting of waking and evening meditation, Yoga and tai chi, Art therapy, natural healing medicines and a chance to speak with and receive healing from the shamans personally, all the while being surrounded by the stunning beauty of back drops such as the Amazonian jungle. I would also like to visit the sacred ruins and places of worship so I can learn the true sense of the local’s nature and their exploration of healing so I can hopefully use this to heal myself and others. This to me will be a vital journey in reaching my end goal of total healing. I will learn a great deal about myself and get to experience the forms of natural healing that have been available since before civilization, which I have been told leads to higher spiritual levels that can release the boundaries of my total healing from cancer and life.
Journey six; India and South East Asia (Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam).
I have been exploring Buddhism and its healing practices and would love to journey to these countries to explore their connection with this, the local culture, and sacred healing sights, and to live and practice with the monks and nuns in a monastery for a short while. I think the self discipline and devotion they show to their religion and healing practices such as meditation and helping others is very powerful and there is a lot I can gain from being at one with them. I believe healing of the heart and mind is crucial to my healing which is what this type of deep meditation and self-discipline can provide. Emotional and mental blockages as well as environment are known causes of physical disease so this part of my journey is aimed at treating this. To be able to spend time with these people is a blessing in its own right and I believe the lessons I could learn from them and the way they live are very important and can be shared with many. In return I will help them in any way I can.
*the journeys may not be in this particular order and is dependent on how each one progresses individually.
I have also received great support from charities that I have been connected with through my hospital, such as Clic Sargent, Emily Ash Trust, Macmillan, Teens Unite and the Sara Lee Trust. All have helped me quite significantly and so any residual monies from my raised funds will be used in giving back to each of these.
I have already learnt a great deal throughout my life so far and I hope that through the journeys I am raising money for I can learn even more so I can share this with others in the best way possible to inspire and guide them on their journeys and also prove that you can heal fully naturally even if ‘they’ tell you its impossible.
To some this adventure may seem scary but through my illness I have discovered a strength immeasurable to anything else I know and it can only be a great thing to try to expand this strength further and really prove the limitless possibilities for change and growth that exist inside ourselves.
It is hard to predict the true cost but I have set my target with the mind that my boyfriend Kyle can come with me for support, I can be comfortable along my journeys knowing if I need to return home suddenly due to ill or such like I can, I am able to explore my chosen destinations freely and safely, if more opportunities arise for treatments and healings through my journeys I can pursue them, an opportunity to give back to the individuals, charities and communities that have helped us along the way and ultimately using all we have learnt to open a natural healing centre incorporating the techniques and medicines we have explored.
At the moment I am saving as much as possible but this is difficult as I am supporting myself. Any money I can raise towards my journeys would be greatly appreciated and will be used in the best way possible with the mind always to heal myself and to heal and help others do the same, as well as giving back to those who have helped me along the way.
I have been keeping a journal with the mind that one day it could be used to help someone else experiencing ‘dis-ease’ and will continue to keep this when I go on my travels. I also plan to write an online blog updating everyone on my experiences along the journeys as often as possible, I am a keen artist and writer so will be uploading my thoughts, photographs, videos and drawings I will create along the way so you can see where your donations will really be going.
I want to use my eventual recovery from my journeys as an inspiration to show people the natural healing power that exists within, whether that’s to heal from ill, life or both. I hope that with this page, this and so much more can become possible.
Thank you for taking time to read my page and I hope you can be a part of my journey,
Love always

P.S Heres a bit more about me…
I’ve been on a healing journey for some time now. At seventeen I had an extensive operation to remove a carotid body tumor that had grown between my carotid arteries in the left side of my neck, the removal of this meant for me a ten-hour operation, artery stint, artery removal, blood transfusion and to be resuscitated twice. Considering all that my body had gone through, the op went as successfully as it could (with a beautiful scar to match) and the outcome couldn’t have been better at the time. From this I gained a new thirst for life, I had survived for a reason and set clear goals to reach my chosen career as a creative director and curator. I returned to college and worked very hard to get in to university and was accepted to study graphic design at a London campus. Five months into my first year in 2013 after endless tests and unanswered questions, at 22 years old I was diagnosed with metastatic paraganglioma, a rare form of cancer that saw the return of the carotid body tumor in cancerous form that had spread through to my neck, spine, lymph nodes, lungs and part of my nervous system. I was described as terminally ill and signed off with six months to live.
Nearly two years on I am still here.
My cancer is so rare I have been told there is no treatment available for me on the NHS that will provide any cure, only harsh treatments such as radiotherapy or Lanreotide injections that are said to relieve the symptoms. After my diagnosis I received a course of radiotherapy to my upper spine and Lanreotide injections to relieve my symptoms, I submitted to these at first because I was told these are my only options but soon realised that this route is not for me, neither are proven as effective cure on my type of cancer and they only brought on further side effects which effected my body, soul and confidence greatly. When I experienced these and witnessed the harsh reality of these treatments I decided against the use of most, if not all-synthetic medicines of this kind and have gone without medical treatment now since September 2014.
I have had quite a traumatic experience with hospitals and doctors, I was showing signs of ill for a long time before my operation and most recent diagnosis and was put through many a merry dance of misdiagnosis and endless harsh testing with no clear answers which only lead to mistrust and confusion. Its important to state that the support from my hospital has been good and I still attend regularly for check ups and scans but I cant help but feel the need to break free of the conveyer belt I feel I was put on. These medicines could cause detrimental affects to my body and health without a definite positive outcome and their focus is purely on the physical yet the treatments they provide can lead you to become more ill then before. I understand some of their methods and recognize and am thankful for the work they have put into supporting me and I also understand why people stand by these medicines and feel a dependency to doctors to know what’s best, but I know there are alternative natural and affective ways of healing ill of any kind out there and available to me.
“ There is nothing we can do for you” are the words that really inspired me to become responsible for my own healing journey. I wasn’t going to let anyone tell me how I would die or that I was incapable of healing. A very powerful sense of knowing came over me in that moment which hasn’t left me since, it came as a relief to me to realise that I didn’t have to submit to or rely on the will of others to heal anymore, I can know what I need because I am me-this body, soul and mind who is capable of anything and I had, and still have every faith in myself that I will heal. I also realised in this moment that this was not a typical attitude and perhaps I can help others to find their own strength of self that can lead to total healing from ill, treatments in hospitals, the voodoo of doctors words or just the realities of life and show them the alternatives out there. I am hoping that with the journeys I am raising money for I will be guided in the best way that this may be possible.
I am since better then I have ever been physically, spiritually and emotionally to the amazement of everyone including my doctors. On paper I must appear dying and sickly but I stand here before them and you breathing life and looking and feeling better then I ever have. I do sometimes feel extremely tired and unwell but I have put a lot of work in to my self and have been focusing on healing all areas of my self. I have been designing a form of self prescription that I try to implement daily, this includes things such as tai chi, meditation, art, writing, visualization, spiritual work, reiki, spending time with loved ones, anything that makes me happy and this has changed my life greatly, making vast improvements on my health. My cancer now appears stable and there has even been noted decrease to my neck and lung metastases! I have been nominated for an artistic youth achievement award for designing a poster for my hospital, received a certificate for completing part one of my tai chi training and above all reached higher levels of my self that I didn’t know where possible (and now I know ANYTHING is).
Eventually I would like to immerse all I have learnt to create a natural healing center that provides a sanctuary and forms of healing that are natural and safe – something that is unavailable for me right now. I also intend to be completely self sufficient, growing our own plants, foods, medicines and creating our own natural cosmetics (something I have been experimenting with). With this in mind, the journeys I am raising money for will educate us in the ways that this is possible and provide us with a chance of creating this as well as lead to my total healing from cancer.
