LauraLee was exposed to COVID-19 and quickly developed symptoms. On April 26th, 2021, LauraLee went into an urgent care for treatment. She was diagnosed with COVID-19 Viral Pneumonia. She was approved for the Regeneron infusion on April 27th, 2021. The Regeneron infusion reduces hospitalizations by 80% by helping the body build anti-bodies against the COVID-19 virus.
LauraLee had the treatment scheduled for April 28th, at 1:00 PM. Regrettably, she quickly declined in her health. Overnight, her pulse-oximetry level dropped extremely low to 66%. Steven rushed her to the emergency room.
LauraLee's health continued to decline, and she couldn't breathe on her own. She was administered high-flow oxygen, and was eventually placed on CPAP. Despite all of the assistance, she continued declining in her health.
On April 30th, 2021, the hospital staff started preparing for the possibility of moving her into the ICU for intubation. This prompted LauraLee to start reaching out to family, and we started gearing up for the worse, when LauraLee bravely and faithfully declared "Let's believe that tonight is a turning point, okay? Can we all believe that? It's gotta come at some point. So, might as well be tonight," and "I'm fighting."
On May 1st, 2021, she was moved into the ICU, where she would receive further treatment. She was placed on Bi-PAP, and her vitals remained stable throughout the day.
LauraLee was staying stable in the ICU until the early hours on May 3rd, 2021. Regrettably, her oxygen levels dropped extremely low, so the medical staff made the decision for LauraLee to be intubated. The family was awoken to a video message from LauraLee sharing her reservations about being intubated. The family quickly rallied around LauraLee and encouraged her that this was a necessary step for her healing.
LauraLee decided to proceed with the intubation. As the doctor came into LauraLee's room to sedate her and perform the procedure, her oxygen levels miraculously improved and the doctor chose to hold off on performing the procedure! The doctor instead decided to change her breathing treatments.
On May 4th, 2021, LauraLee received a PICC line. Her oxygen levels continued to be unstable, so the medical staff wasn't certain if she'd be able to avoid intubation yet again. She received a new mask due to facial irritation; however, as a result, it caused more anxiety on LauraLee due to the claustrophobic feeling of the full face mask.
On May 5th, 2021, LauraLee continued her strong fight and maintained her oxygen levels enough to avoid intubation ALL TOGETHER!
The following days LauraLee began getting much needed sleep for her body to heal.
On May 7th, 2021, LauraLee's doctor stated that she turned a corner! LauraLee had her full face mask removed and was placed on a Bi-PAP nasal cannula for an hour, so that she could finally eat and drink. Her oxygen levels continued to stabilize, so she was able to stay off the full face mask.
Unfortunately, during this time, LauraLee's husband, Steve, began declining in his health. He was admitted into the very same hospital due to health issues.
On May 8th, 2021, LauraLee's oxygen levels continued to improve and stabilize! Her nurse decided it was time to try and sit LauraLee up in a chair. Not only was LauraLee able to do this once, but twice!
During this time, Steve was also making huge improvements.
In the early morning hours of May 9th, 2021, LauraLee was taken off of Bi-PAP entirely and placed solely on high flow oxygen via nasal cannula.
During the very same morning, Steve was discharged from the hospital and was able to return home.
At 11:55 AM the family got word that LauraLee was officially leaving the ICU! She continues to be monitored and continues to make progress in the healing and recovery process.
LauraLee is a fighter, and we know that our merciful God isn't calling her home just yet! We have stood in faith, knowing that God's miraculous healing hands are at work. We are asking all believers to continue standing in faith with us, even that of a mustard seed, for even that can move mountains.
We know that, after recovery, medical bills will be a substantial burden. If you are being led to help, please let the Lord lead your decision in how much, any amount to help relieve this burden is appreciated. We thank you so much for your continued love, prayers, and support!
