Hey everyone,
Laura and Happy could use some help. Serious help for a serious problem.
Laura has been sick and in treatment for both Cushing's and Addison's diseases. This weird combination is a very aggressive and extremely rare disorder, and the side effects have been challenging; they include diabetes and internal edema, the latter of which can be life-threatening. In December she started a round of treatment to reduce tissue inflammation and jump start normal adrenal function. Until Laura's inflammation is reduced, doctors and surgeons can't do endoscopic and other testing to figure out what's causing her illness. In short: without a reduction in inflammation and cortisol, Laura’s recovery is permanently stalled.
(Personal note: if you’re reading this, you may or may not know Laura well. But you almost definitely know Happy from his music and his many bands, recordings, and musical contributions: Royal Crescent Mob, Howlin' Maggie, Twilight Singers, Afghan Whigs, Brad, Shawn Smith, and more. I know his music has meant so much to so many of us over the years. But I also want you to know that Laura is the love of Happy’s life. And she is his Muse, in so many ways. I know he would not be the artist he is if not for her. And none of us would have experienced all the joy his music has given us without her place in his heart and in his life.)
I am running this campaign in an effort to help make Laura's and Happy's life a little bit easier during this process. The money will go directly into their account and will be used to shoulder some of the burden of their ever growing medical bills. Laura is facing 6 more weeks of her current treatment, and if (when) it works—then the real medical adventure begins. They will need to figure out what the source of the problem is—whether it's cancer or tumor driven—and what the treatment plan will be. Your contributions will allow them to focus on healing and be able to afford to make decisions for care and treatment options that may be outside of their insurance coverage. Because Laura's illness is so rare, they are facing lots of uncertainty around these many questions.
More than anything else, they would appreciate your thoughts and prayers to help Laura get through this and back to health and wellness. For those of you who want to help with a monetary donation to cover medical expenses, I have set up this page as a way to do so.
And please feel free to Like or Share to help spread the word.
Thank you so very much - Laura and Happy are grateful always for your love and support.
Watch for updates as her treatments proceed.
