Hello,

My name is Laura Grullon and I am currently a Junior at the Bronx Academy of Letters in the South Bronx, New York.   I was awarded an Exceptional Merit Scholarship at the  Oxbridge Academic Programs to study  in Barcelona, Spain!  My scholarship covers half of my  tuition along with the medical emergency insurance fee.
While this is an  honor and a privilege, there are also many expenses that come along with it.  The scholarship  does not cover half of the tuition, flight, lunch, computer and other personal expenses.

I grew up without my parents in the poorest congretional district in the United States.   Growing up I was surrounded by negative people who always discourgaged me. For some people this would have probably brought them down, but  it only made me fight harder and be stronger.

Now I find myself with the possibility to realize one of the biggest dreams in my life!  To have the opportunity to study in Barcelona, Spain.  I will be exposed  to another culture, food, dance, music and colors.  I will learn about history, art, and more about my Hispanic heritage.   I want to not only come back with a new perspective and more knowledge; but I want to come back with stories.  I hope to set an example for other students in my school and other kids in my community.  I would be proof that anything is possible.
