This fundraiser is a tough one for me as I do not like having to ask people for help. I struggling to say it but this time I need all the help I can get. I am getting ready to have my 19th surgery and this one really scares me. The risk involved in the surgery itself are not big but if this surgery fails I could end up in significantly more pain than I have right now which is tough to imagine.
As most of you know I have 5 chronic pain conditions with the worst without a doubt being bilateral atypical trigeminal neuralgia. This is a complication from a TMJ (the jaw joints) surgery I had to have so I could open my jaw again. Trigeminal Neuralgia, or TN for short, is considered the worst chronic pain condition in existance. The first thing I found after diagnosis is the nickname is the "suicide disease" because so many people with it kill themselves as they cannot deal with the pain.
For the last ten years I have spent taking pills, doing nerve blocks, meditation, dietary changes, weekly injections, monthly infusions...all to avoid surgery. The good news is I waited this long and for that reason a new surgery was created that can help people with not just typical but atypical like I have. What this surgery will do is it is a stimulator that acts sorta like a tens unit that is put into the peripheral nervous system that is on 24/7 that I can control the intensity with a remote/ipod type thing. I will be seeing a Doctor in Denver who is considered the best in his field within the US and one of the best worldwide.
The reason I need financial help is my boyfriend and I will have to make a minimum of 4 trips to Denver. The expenses we added up for a quick drive down on day 1, do the appointment, and drive back day 3. For a fast trip like this it will be about $400 if we do it the cheapest way possible. Some trips though will require we stay longer for tests or surgery itself. I randomly chose $2500 as the goal but it could end up being more. Any help whatsoever will help us immensely. We are looking at other charitable non profits that may help.
I love you all and thank you for all the help and support, whether it is helping raise money or praying. You all mean the world to me. This really is the scariest surgery yet.
