Laura Lane (Todorow)

On June 3rd , 2020, Laura (Todorow) Lane suffered a ruptured aneurysm that resulted in a fatal brain hemorrhage. She fought hard, but eventually succumbed to the trauma on June 15.

It is with a broken heart that we attempt to memorialize our dear friend. Despite Laura’s deep aversion to the spotlight, we honor her memory publicly on GoFundMe, knowing that the only thing she valued more than her privacy was the wellbeing of her beloved family.

Thanks to her union with her husband Sean, Laura Lane adopted a name that elicited comparisons to the famous female companion of an iconic superhero. And while the most modest of people, she was nothing short of a real-life superhero to those in her life.

Unsurprisingly, Laura found her true calling in helping people. As an elementary school teacher, she found the perfect outlet for her infinite patience, nurturing nature, and wealth of creativity as she instilled a love of learning in her young students.

But her true heroism was evident in her dedication to and sacrifice for her family. A real-life supermom, Laura lived selflessly for her two beautiful children, Lilly (5) and Jacob (3), with every day and dollar dedicated to them.

When Lilly was diagnosed with Autism at an early age, Laura and Sean faced life-changing challenges and decisions. Following his graduation from Berkeley, Sean opted to put his career ambitions on hold to cater to the rigorous schedule, demanding care, and extensive services required for Lilly, while waiting tables at night. Meanwhile, Laura juggled her teaching career with a doting love of Lilly and commitment to ensuring progress in her development.

Despite a hectic schedule and no shortage of stress, Laura, as always, adapted. She never complained; instead, she focused on the positives and always found humor in the face of adversity. The expansion of the family with the adorably rambunctious Jacob simply added to the joyful chaos of the unconventional Lane household.

One of Laura’s most defining characteristics was her unfailing kindness and seemingly bottomless generosity. She lent money to people when she barely had any of her own. She was quick with a quip to defuse tension, break the ice, or to lift spirits. She was an unparalleled sounding board—happy to just listen or to offer sage advice, if solicited. She always saw the good in people. She loved unconditionally and without judgment.

We are now asking for generosity from friends and family in kind, as we look to lend our support to the Lanes during this difficult time.

Her memory will stay with us always.
