In 2012, My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She received radiation therapy and had lymph nodes taken out. She was in remission for several years.
In May 2020, while living at work as a COVID nurse, I got the phone call that my mom’s cancer was back. This time she had Angiosarcoma—a form of cancer caused by the previous radiation. She underwent a mastectomy and began intense chemo drug and radiation therapy.
Unfortunately, the Angiosarcoma spread to her liver, which is a very painful location. She developed lesions on her liver, which were believed to be stable until she went into the hospital last Thursday, September 22nd. On Friday, her doctors found the lesions on her liver had ruptured, but unfortunately, they did not discover this until after she had gone into cardiac arrest twice.
My mother went home to her eternal father that day, but she officially left this world on Saturday, September 24th, at 7:30 am.
I am sharing this to let her story be known and ask for your financial support in giving my mom the memorial she deserves.
My stepfather, Joe, has been a wonderful caretaker to my mom. Weekly doctors’ appointments, chemo treatments, and late-night pain are just a few things he’s helped with. My mom’s medical bills have wiped out her and my stepfather’s savings and even caused them to struggle to make ends meet at times. In January, they had to make the difficult decision to stop paying my mom’s term life insurance policy—as it had become prohibitively expensive— which means my stepfather will not receive a life insurance payout which would have helped with memorial and funeral expenses.
My stepfather and I are currently looking at not being able to afford my mom’s memorial.
I don’t like asking for money, as I’d rather give to someone else, but the support my family is presently in need of is financial. I feel a duty to give my mom the place she deserves so if my mom has touched your life in a positive way; I ask that you donate what you can.
Thank you to everyone who is keeping my family in their thoughts and prayers!
