Laura & Kawika Aki. Lahaina wildfire relief.

As I'm sure you are aware our close friend friend Laura lives on the beautiful island of Maui. Laura, her husband Kawika and their two daughters Mahea (4) and Lehua (2) fled their home last week in a terrifying evacuation from the wildfires that were rapidly approaching their neighbourhood. They made it to Laura's brothers house and, thank goodness, are safe. The devastation caused by the fire has been catastrophic, many have tragically lost their lives, homes, and businesses. Laura’s home is still standing but has exterior damage, and due to its location in the fire containment zone, she and her family are displaced and unable to return for the foreseeable future. Laura’s job relies solely on Lahaina tourism, her income has ground to a halt. Kawika’s hotel employment has stopped, as the hotel has closed to house those affected by the fires. Being self employed, Laura does not qualify for any state unemployment pay. So many things are difficult and confusing for them right now. We are asking if you can spare any money at all to help them while they try to find long term shelter and figure things out. If we can take the financial pressure off them even just a bit at this traumatic time, when they have so many other things to work out, I know they will be really, truly grateful.
