Laura Greco & Family Need Help with Expenses

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Deana Hendrickson. My dear friend, Laura Greco, was diagnosed with lung cancer seven years ago after a freak car accident. The diagnosis took her by surprise. She was just forty-years-old, she had been skiing the day before, she had no reason to think that she had cancer.

Many of you know Laura, so you know that in the past seven years, she has done everything she could do to fight this terrible disease to be around for her two young sons, Fletcher and Rhys, who were only 2 and 6 respectively when Laura was told she had cancer.

She’s had surgery to remove part of her lung, she’s had several rounds of chemotherapy, she’s had numerous radiation therapies to her chest and her brain, she’s had five different brain surgeries, and she’s been on a host of highly specialized genetic therapies. She’s even been the first in the world to try new drug combinations, making her not only a cancer warrior but a cancer pioneer.

None of this has come without a cost, though. Cancer is a terrible disease that seeps into every aspect of a person’s life.

As Laura has needed more and more care, the costs have mounted.

In recent months, Laura has spent more than $2,000 a month in out-of-pocket co-pays for drugs and medical appointments. All of that is in addition to the cost of travel for her to get from her home in New York to her specialized medical team in Boston. I was shocked to learn that the toll fees for the drive to and from Boston each time come to more than $100. And, Laura’s been going every couple of weeks lately.

It almost goes without saying that Laura’s condition has required her to give up her professional career as an attorney and the salary she earned there. Fortunately, she has the support of a good insurance plan through her husband’s job. But, this past summer, Tillman has had to give up his summer income to take care of Laura’s medical needs after her last two brain surgeries. That cut $30,000 from the family’s annual budget.

And, as if these poor folks didn’t have enough on their plate, they’ve had a series of bad luck this summer. Three separate car repairs and a bad wind storm that brought down 15 trees around the property at their home have added other unexpected costs. Getting the trees removed is going to cost an estimated $6,000.

It can be hard to know what to do to help people in Laura’s spot. None of us have a cure for the cancer that dislocated Laura’s life seven years ago. But, I know we all want to do what we can to help this family carry the burden that they’ve been faced with.

That’s why I’ve started this GoFundMe to raise money to help them through the difficult patch that has followed Laura’s most recent surgeries. Please contribute if you are able.
