In Loving Memory of Laura Gilbert – A Wife, Daughter, Mother, and Friend

This week, our hearts were shattered.

Laura Gilbert, beloved wife, devoted mother to two beautiful boys, and cherished friend, passed away after a painful battle with depression. Her life support was switched off this morning, surrounded by her family, who held her as she slipped away.

Laura’s passing was the result of suicide ; a word that’s hard to say, harder to understand, and impossible to forget. It’s a reminder of how deeply mental health can affect someone, even when they’re surrounded by love. Laura was warm, witty, fiercely loyal, and a mother who loved her boys with everything she had. But behind her smile, she was facing something darker than most of us will ever comprehend.

She was never alone; her friends and family were there, ready to support her, ready to help. But depression can be isolating in ways that defy logic. It can convince someone that protecting others means keeping them at a distance. Laura held her pain close, not because she wasn’t loved, but because she didn’t want her suffering to spill into the lives of those she cared about most.

Depression doesn’t always make sense from the outside. It distorts reality, isolates, and convinces even the strongest souls that there’s no way out. What Laura was facing was deeper than most will ever understand.

Now, her family is left to navigate the unimaginable, grief, shock, and the practical realities of laying her to rest. We’re raising £6,000 to help cover funeral costs and offer support to her husband and children as they begin to rebuild their lives without her.

If you knew Laura, you know how deeply she loved. If you didn’t, but you’ve felt the weight of mental health struggles, or watched someone you love suffer, you know how important it is to show up with compassion.

Please donate if you can. Share if you’re moved. And most importantly, talk about mental health. Check in on your people. Remind them they’re not alone.

Let’s honour Laura, not only by supporting her family in this moment of unimaginable loss, but by holding space for the conversations that too often go unspoken. Let her story remind us to lean in, to listen more deeply, and to show up for one another with compassion and courage. Your donation, your voice, and your presence all matter.

Thank you for your kindness and support.
