For all of you who had the pleasure of knowing this amazing woman I know that she has touched you life in some way or another. For me I was lucky enough to know her as mom. She was someone who to me turned into a living super hero. Through her life she worked with so many people in so many different capacities.
She spent weekends teaching people of all ranges how to ride horses. Not only that though but she taught them how to love horses. She taught English and Western disciplines of riding but then was also known for her tips to the beach to ride horses, summer camp outs on Father's Day weekend, Christmas brunches followed with awards and Easter Play Days.
When she wasn't teaching lessons she was working at the District Attorneys Office dealing with case after case. Most of that work I can't say I know to much about she managed to keep her work and home life mostly separate. I do know though that she did travel on occasion to bring kids back home. She also removed them from some horrible living situations in some cases.
As if that wasn't enough she also trained the Santa Barbara County Sheriffs Department mounted patrol. She would come up with all kinds of different situations to test not only the officers but the horses. They would then spend time paroling places like Isla Vista on Halloween and Lake Cachuma during fourth of July.
She was defiantly a woman who could do it all and still made time to bake cookies for Halloween and Valentines Day for my sister and I as well as our entire class. She also would make baked good to take into work. Every day she was up with the sun at 5:30 am to feed and care for the horses and home to make a home made meal almost every night. I remember several nights she would doze off with the evening new before eventually getting up to go to sleep.
So why am I asking for your help now. Even though it has been 11 years to me it still feels like she passed away yesterday. Its a horrible feeling that never goes away. A pain that is always there. I feel like she did so much for so many people and I don't feel like I have done enough to honor her. I am working hard to have a memorial sign erected on HWY 154 in honor of her and her memory and I am asking for help to raise the money needed to do so. I have gathered all the forms and now just have to pay for application fees and the fee for the sign itself. I want to make sure that no matter the amount of time that passes that she is remember as she should be. Thank you to all of you for all your love and support over the years.
