Hello,
My name is Mayra Bernal, I am the oldest daughter of the late Laura "Patricia" Bernal. Last Friday, October 1st we lost our mother after 5 plus years of battling Breast Cancer. After 4 years of scans coming back clean, year 5 it was back. It had now moved to her bones. She fought long and hard for a year, still working and being the amazing mother that she was! She beat Covid and pneumonia last December so you know she was a warrior. After fighting off Covid, a check up came back with Cancer now in her liver. She continued to fight, work hard and be there for her family. She unfortunately had a few falls which prompted more scans and MRI's, the Cancer had rapidly spread to her skull, brain and spin. Our worst nightmares had come true, our mother went from 1 week still talking to us, walking around and smiling to 2 hospital visits and the last visit being her last.
Our mother was not one to express her feelings but damn if she wouldn't do ANYTHING for anyone who needed help in any way. Our mom fought long to enjoy all of us for as long as she could. I feel peace knowing she suffered for a very short period of time (days really) and it went by quickly. My father and siblings are extremely saddened by her loss. No one truly plans for these kind of financial circumstances. We have amazing families around us who have been nothing but support for us but we still will have medical bills and financial responsibilities to take care on her behalf. My father and I over the next few weeks will start sorting out all my moms medical bills, expenses and other bills she may have.
