Latinx family at risk of Eviction
Hello community,
One of my first graders’ family is at risk of homelessness. Both parents lost their jobs due to the pandemic and they haven’t been able to afford rent. The landlord is threatening to evict them if they don’t payup the last 4 months of rent that they owe.
The family has 3 kids the ages of 6, 10, and 11. The landlord has been abusive with the family and their living situation has become unsafe for the children. The landlord has refused to provide their unit with a working refrigerator and refuses to turn their electricity on at random times for no reason so they are unable to cook for themselves.
I have reached out to a few housing crisis organizations for support and I’m waiting to hear back on next steps. In the meantime, I will be using some of the money raised to order the family hot meals until their housing situation is resolved.
Of the $12,000 we are hoping to raise, we will allocate $4,000 to past rent due. The remaining $8,000 will go towards hot meals, moving fees, rent for the next 5 months, and an emergency fund.

La familia de uno de mis estudiantes de primer grado está a riesgo de desalojamiento. Sus padres perdieron trabajo por la pandemia y no han podido pagar renta. La dueña les amenaza de hecharlos a la calle si no le pagan los últimos 4 meses de renta.
La familia tiene 3 hijos de edades 6, 10, y 11. La dueña ha sido muy abusiva con la familia y les causa mucho estrés y daño a los niños. A la dueña no le importa que su refrigerador ya no funciona y a veces les corta la electricidad sin motivo y ni pueden cocinar.
Ya llamé a varias organizaciones que ayudan a familias de bajos recursos que están a riesgo de perder alojamiento y estamos esperando sus consejos. Hasta mientras, los fondos recaudados se usarán para comprarles comida caliente mientras resolvemos esta situación injusta.
De los $12,000 que esperamos recaudar, $4000 será proporcionado para pagar los 4 meses de renta. Los $8000 que queda se usará para comida caliente, pagos de mudanza, renta para los próximos 5 meses, y fondos de emergencia.
