Latino meals--Revere Covid Quarantine patients
Donation protected
Reading an article in the Boston Globe about a Revere hotel-turned-quarantine-ward for patients who cannot safely quarantine at home (due to small living spaces with many family members living together), something struck me. As though the loneliness of quarantine isn't enough, the mostly Latino patients say they long for the taste of home. Can't I do something about that???
MGH disaster nurse Jacquelyn Nally, who is the nursing director for the inn, says “Perhaps above all, the food has been tricky. I think if this were to happen again, we would consider the cultural sensitivity and the cultural differences for the population that you’re serving.’’
I'm raising funds to send meals from El Tipico Restaurant in Lynn to feed the patients and MGH staff, starting this Sunday. Each meal will cost $7 --for chicken, rice & beans, and plantains. Every dollar donated will go directly to supporting this effort. Depending on funding and future need, we'll keep it going as long as possible.
The Globe reporter got me in touch with nurse Jacky, who is thrilled at the thought of bringing smiles to her patients, and El Tipico is looking forward to the partnership. There are currently about 100 patients to feed. A $75 donation sends 10 hot meals!

We'll give any extra monies to patients via a food gift card when they leave, should the Covid hotel be able to close before the end of June.
