It was that day when we encountered the hardest new of our lives. Those words that shake the world of any parent and their soul.

We are Andrea and Ricardo, Thiago's parents.

We have been married for two years, and last December, we decided to start growing our family. In the early months of pregnancy, we assumed that everything was going well since his legs, arms, and head were growing perfectly.

Until last May 31st, when we went for our 24-week structural ultrasound and found out that Thiago has a congenital heart defect called TGA (transposition of the great arteries).

This symbol, which seems to be a sign of good luck, is also the objective of Thiago's surgery. We all have the two great arteries of the heart in an X shape. Our baby has them in parallel ll. This is incompatible with life, which is why Thiago will have to undergo open-heart surgery a few days after birth to correct this and be able to live.

In recent days, we have been talking to experts in TGA, and they all agree that the best option is to have the surgery done in the United States. This is for a simple reason: in Mexico, 10 out of 100 surgeries are not successful, while there, only 1 out of 100 is unsuccessful.

Although our doctors in Mexico are top-notch, doctors in the USA have more experience and better post-surgery care for this type of heart defect (TGA), as they perform around triple the number of surgeries per year. These increases the chances of Thiago surviving the surgery and having a completely normal life after this surgery.

That's why we need your help to make this possible. It is very costly, and a large part of what is required is not covered by our insurance.

Thankfully, we have the odds in our favor. We have an excellent attitude, and we have been able to approach this situation as a gift. The news has shattered us, but it has also brought out an inner light and strength that we didn't know we had. Fue ese día que nos encontramos con la noticia más fuerte de nuestras vidas. Esas palabras que retumban el mundo de cualquier padre y su alma.

Nosotros somos Andrea y Ricardo, los papás de Thiago.

Tenemos dos años de casados y en diciembre del año pasado decidimos comenzar a crecer nuestra familia. En los primeros meses de embarazo, dábamos por hecho que todo iba muy bien, ya que sus piernas, brazos y cabeza iban creciendo perfectamente.

Hasta que el pasado 31 de mayo fuimos a nuestro eco estructural de la semana 24 donde nos enteramos que Thiago tiene una cardiopatía congénita llamada TGA (transposición de las grandes arterias).

Este signo que parece ser de buena suerte, es también el objetivo de la cirugía de Thiago. Todos tenemos las 2 grandes arterias del corazón en forma de X. Nuestro bebé las tiene en paralelo l l. Lo cual esto es incompatible con la vida, por esto es que Thiago tendrá que someterse a una cirugía a corazón abierto a los pocos días de nacido para que le realicen esta corrección y pueda vivir.

Estos últimos días hemos estado platicando con expertos en TGA y todos coinciden en que la mejor opción es realizar la cirugía en Estados Unidos. Esto es por una simple razón, en México 10 de cada 100 cirugías no son exitosas y allá solo 1 de cada 100 no lo es.

A pesar de que en México nuestros médicos son de primer nivel, los doctores en EUA tienen mayor experiencia y mejores cuidados post cirugía para este tipo de cardiopatía (TGA), ya que atienden alrededor del triple de cirugías al año, lo cual aumenta las probabilidades de que Thiago sobreviva a la cirugía y tenga una vida completamente normal después de esta operación.

Es por esto que necesitamos de su ayuda para hacer esto posible. Ya que es muy costoso y gran parte de lo requerido no lo cubre nuestro seguro.

Gracias a Dios tenemos las probabilidades a nuestro favor. Contamos con una excelente actitud y hemos sabido tomar esta situación como un regalo. La noticia nos ha roto, pero esto mismo ha hecho que saquemos una luz y fuerza interna que no sabíamos que teníamos. Estamos decididos a hacer lo posible por darle las mejores posibilidades a Thiago, y seguros de que hay miles de corazones más dispuestos a unirse a esta causa.
