Lathan’s Journey Against Cancer – Let’s fight together
I am Lathan’s Great-Aunt. I have started this Go Fund Me page to support Lathan and his family as he undergoes treatment for Neuroblastoma, a rare form of childhood cancer.
Lathan is two years old this October. At the end of July, Lathan was diagnosed with Stage Four Neuroblastoma. He was transferred from the Townsville University Hospital to Queensland Children's Hospital under a care flight with his mum, Rhiannon. Since then, Lathan has finished two round of introductory chemo, as well as had stem cells harvested for use further in his treatment.
The current challenge:
As he battles through his treatment, Lathan’s twin sister, Layne, and his dad Trent, are travelling between their home and Brisbane, splitting their time between Lathan and his older sisters Maddison and Ellanah who are staying near home for school. They live over 1200km away in Ayr, North Queensland. The family live on a 40-hectare property with 25 head of cattle and their family pets. Trent was working as a contract diesel fitter and away from home a lot working in the mines in Central Queensland, while Rhiannon took care of the everyday tasks associated with raising a young family living on a property. Since Lathan's diagnoses Trent has had to give up work to take care of his young family.
Lathan’s Story:
Lathan is an energetic, brave, and cheeky young man. He is a fighter. He and his twin sister, Layne, were born three months prematuretly at 26 weeks in 2022. He had just started to show his true independent and strong nature and with those gorgeous blue eyes and beautiful smile has you from the moment you set eyes on him. But since he was diagnosed with cancer Lathan’s Journey has already been filled with chemo, needles, scans, tests, swabs and blood transfusions.
Lathan’s hospital treatment includes:
- Chemo treatment in 3-week cycles: 5 days of treatment, 16 days of recovery
- He’s had 2 rounds of chemo initially
- Then bone marrow harvesting for stem cell replacement later
- Then another three rounds of chemo
- Then an operation to remove his adrenal gland, which is where the cancer started
- Alternative therapy, if the cancer continues to spread
- Radiation, if all goes to plan (they were hoping to avoid this due to his age, but they are saying it will be necessary)
- Then more chemo
- Then immunotherapy
He will need up to 18 months of treatment, although this could change, depending on how he responds to treatment and if there are setbacks or complications, like infection or illness.
Let’s fight together – how we all can help:
I am hoping we can support Lathan through this fight. Together we can provide Trent and Rhiannon some financial support and reduce some of the financial weight and stress, so they can focus on helping Lathan’s brave fight.
Please feel free to leave a message of support or share Lathan’s Journey with friends knowing your words and thoughts will be wholeheartedly seen and felt by Rhiannon and Trent.
I would like to express on behalf of Rhiannon and Trent their deeply felt gratitude for you taking the time to read Lathan’s story. We will add updates to this page about Lathan’s progress, how he is battling his brave fight and what has been happening in his world.
Thank you for your heartfelt generosity and support.
