Latanya's Funeral
Latanya was a woman that I met at our soup kitchen 10 years ago. She was living in the Worcester shelter at that point. We developed a friendship as she started to share her story and looked for help to improve her life. Soon after we were able to move her from a shelter into stable housing. Then we helped her get a job with Amazon delivering packages. During her time in Worcester she would drive to New York on the weekends to visit her four children. She had a great personality and she was friends with many of the people in the St. John's community.
Two years ago Latanya made the decision to move to Georgia in order to be closer to some of her family. Her dream was to buy a house there for her and her kids to live in. A few months later Latanya developed a kidney disease that forced her to go to dialysis several times a week. She developed high blood pressure and her health started to deteriorate. Then, in August of this year, Latanya suffered a stroke as she was driving to the hospital. Her doctors attempted several brain operations in order to save her life; unfortunately she slipped into a coma and was put on a ventilator. Latanya passed peacefully on Thursday morning, September 2nd.
Being her good friend, what I would like to do is raise some money for her funeral, as her family's funds are limited. If you could find it in your heart to help them out, it would be greatly appreciated. Any additional funds collected will go to support her 3 teenage children. Thank you.
