Lashada C. Wegman Scholarship Fund

My name is Ryan Small, and I serve as a higher education administrator committed to student success, equity, and access. I created the Lashada C. Wegman Scholarship Fund to honor the life and legacy of my sister, Lashada, who recently passed away due to complications from Rett syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects mobility and communication.

Lashada faced immense challenges but lived with a quiet grace and resilient spirit that inspired everyone who knew her. Though she could not always speak, her presence radiated joy, strength, and perseverance in ways that continue to move me deeply.

In my work, I strive to eliminate the barriers that prevent students from reaching their full potential, especially those from marginalized and underserved communities. This scholarship extends that mission by uplifting students with disabilities who deserve the chance to thrive in higher education.

The Lashada C. Wegman Scholarship will be awarded annually to students with disabilities, with a special focus on those from underrepresented backgrounds. It will help cover tuition, books, and assistive technology, and it will support students who demonstrate the courage and determination that Lashada showed throughout her life.

We plan to award the first scholarship in January 2026. Your support will directly impact the lives of students who need it most, helping them pursue their goals and ensuring that Lashada’s legacy of quiet strength lives on in their success.
