Opening Doors to Opportunity through Education
Las Casas - English as a Second Language is an all-volunteer program teaching adult English Language Learners in Oakland's Fruitvale district. Started in 2002 in collaboration with the Dominican Sisters of Mission San Jose (DSMSJ), we have classes 3 nights a week, serving nearly 120 students nightly. Join us in our mission to Open Doors to Opportunity Through Education!
Our Twenty Year Anniversary is here (2002 to 2022), and we are seeking donations to help Las Casas continue into the next decade - and beyond! We pivoted to distance learning in 2020-2021, but we are back in the classroom this year. Our 120+ students and 25+ volunteers bring energy, dedication and a commitment to both personal and community empowerment each night.
Las Casas is a non-profit under the umbrella of the DSMSJ, a registered 501(c)3, organization; all donations will be acknowledged as tax deductible, to the extend of the law. We welcome your gifts - of any size - to help us continue this critical work.
"Let us remember: one book, one pen, one student and one teacher CAN change the world."
