Hello, I am Ian Phillip and I have organized this fundraiser to help my friend Lars Nolan get out of homelessness and create an independent life. Many of you know the journey Lars took across the country from Nebraska to Seattle to see a Mariners game. Lars is Bipolar 1 Manic Depressive, and uses 90% of his state assistance money on his medication, which he needs to live. Unmedicated bipolar people are trapped by their manic episodes, unable to sleep, calm down or concentrate on the things they need to do to improve themselves. Even though Lars is homeless, living in a tent city, dealing with cancer symptoms, he spends his spare time trying to get to therapy, rehab and driving vans for the camp to bring blankets to other homeless people. My goal is to raise 10,000 and purchase a used car for Lars. He has a license, but is currently having to choose between buying his medication/attending therapy or having a roof over his head. With a decent vehicle, he can get to appointments, be safe from the elements and start to gain independence. The goal is that he can begin to drive Uber and bridge the gap that comes every month when the medication runs out. Lars is completely capable of working and thriving if he has his medical and therapeutic needs met. He is motivated to better himself and find the happiness of life he once had. I asked him recently what he needed most, and he said "Stability, normalcy, and a chance". Sleeping in the cold in winter, running out of food and shelter with no way to supplement income is becoming a vicious cycle for someone who has survived a lot. Please help us create an opportunity for a man who sees the best in others, so that he may live a life with hope. Thanks for your compassion!
