Writing this is one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. My dad, Larry, was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer last November. He is currently receiving hospice care and is still with us, but we are now in a season where time feels especially precious. Not knowing how much time remains is something our family carries every single day.
My dad has always lived with a big heart, and when he first learned of his diagnosis, he didn’t want to burden the people he loves. Because of that, this may come as a surprise to many who care deeply for him. We truly hope that anyone who loves my dad will reach out and, if possible, spend time with him while he is still here. Even a simple message or visit means more than we can put into words.
I’m creating this fundraiser not because it’s easy to ask for help, but because the weeks ahead will bring both emotional and practical challenges we are trying to prepare for with care and love. As my dad’s condition has progressed, we are facing the need to cover end-of-life arrangements so he can be cremated and laid to rest in our family plot in California, while also navigating the many costs that arise during a transition like this. If my dad chooses to return home for continued hospice care, we will also need to make necessary home repairs to ensure that transition is safe and possible.
At the same time, Gloria will be facing life without my dad’s support. My dad and Gloria share a one-of-a-kind love — the kind rooted in deep connection, kindness, and a shared way of moving through the world. It’s soulful, gentle, and steady, and anyone who knows them can feel it. My hope is to help create some stability for her — to ease immediate pressures, give her breathing room, and allow her to focus on healing and finding her footing in the months ahead.
More than anything, we want to ensure that Gloria is not facing this transition alone, and that our family can remain fully present with my dad during this time. Having support in place would lift a significant weight and allow us to move forward with a little more peace.
If you feel called to help in any way, please know how deeply grateful we are. Any amount truly makes a difference. If giving isn’t possible, sharing this page or keeping our family in your thoughts means more than we can express.
Thank you for holding space for us and for the love and kindness you’ve already shown.
