Driving around Michigan this time of year you will see twinkling lights that hang from rooftops, Rudolph with his nose so bright, and presents under a tree. The smell of burnt sugar and butter wafts through the air as cookies shaped like pine trees and snowmen expand in the oven. The Christmas spirit is around us all, but someone very special to my family and me is spending the holiday within the white walls of an ICU room.

For those of you who do not know who I am, my name is Erin. I am Larry Ouellette's oldest daughter. I am writing to you today to tell you the story of my father. On November 6, 2016 my father asked my mother to take him to the hospital because he was experiencing severe abdominal pain. Sitting in the waiting room, his forehead dripped with sweat and his skin became white.
The results of a CT scan showed that he had a hole in his colon the size of a softball. He was immediately taken to the OR for surgery. When the surgeons opened him up, they couldn't believe what they found. Stool and puss leaked outside the hole. He was a very, very sick man. The infection in his abdomen eventually went into his blood stream causing him to go into septic shock causing renal failure.

On Tuesday, November 15th at 6:30 a.m., the vibrations of a buzzing cellphone woke me up. My uncle was calling to tell me that there was nothing else that could be done. He told me that my sister and I needed to come home. There truly are no words to describe the panic that came over me.
The next few days were a blur as my father fought like hell to stay alive. We took shifts at the hospital sleeping in the waiting room, holding his hand, and talking to him. When he heard our voices, his blood pressure would go up. It was our little beacon of hope.

A month and a half later, Larry is still in the ICU. He's had 6 surgeries thus far. There are more to come. He is still critical, but very much aware of what is going on. He demands foot rubs and Slurpee’s. He still cannot eat or drink anything, but he does get his foot rubs.
The money that is donated will be used to help pay for the hospital expenses that we are incurring from his surgeries, consultations, medications, dialysis, etc.

Why does this mean so much to me? The obvious answer is that he is my father. He has always put my mother, sister, and me before him. It is now our turn to be there for him. He needs us. He needs all of us. Please consider making a donation. Any amount helps. With the amount of stress his body has already been through, I want to try and make his recovery as stress free as possible.
We will forever be grateful. Thank you, from the bottom of our hearts. Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
With love,
Erin, Tammy, Alyssa, Larry and Milo.
