Our dear friend and neighbor, Larry Swearingen, passed away on April 15, 2020. A week earlier, Larry had experienced sudden cardiac arrest at his home on Jackson Street in Highland Park. Paramedics transported Larry to the ICU at UPMC Shadyside where he was placed on life support. Despite a valiant struggle and the prayers of his friends and family, Larry was unable to recover. His devoted partner of 27 years, Robert Tamiggi, was by his side when life support was removed and Larry took his last breaths.
With his beautiful blue eyes and ready smile, Larry was a bright light and a friend to everyone who passed his door. Whether tending to his garden or relaxing with Robert on the front porch, Larry always reached out with a warm hello to welcome anyone who walked by. He loved dogs and dogs loved him. My little cockapoo, Tasha, would pull at her leash until she was able to reach "her Larry" for daily kisses and hugs.
A natural caregiver, Larry could never do enough for anyone who needed help or support. While excelling at his job as Production Coordinator at Print Management, Larry also made nearly daily trips to take care of his aging mother, mow a neighbor's lawn, spend time with his partner, and comfort a grieving friend. I remember him rushing out to the street to rescue my terrified daughter when a neighborhood dog attacked Tasha as they were walking.
Larry's loss is devastating to those of us who knew and loved him, but for none of us so much as it is for his partner, Robert. Robert is now faced with moving on without the support and companionship of the man he had dedicated his life to. Robert has also been unable to work in recent times due to health issues. .. Larry was the primary breadwinner. Robert can use all the support we can offer him, both emotionally and financially during this very challenging time.
I would like to ask you to please contribute as generously as you can to the Larry W. Swearingen Memorial Fund. All funds go directly to his survivor, Robert, enabling him to get through this difficult time without having to worry about bills, the mortgage, and other expenses. In a time when we cannot sit with Robert, hug him, or be there physically, we can do this for him. And Larry would have wanted us to be there for him. We are his neighbors and his friends... lets come through for him now. Anything you can offer will be greatly appreciated.
