On May 29, 2024, our world turned upside down. Larry Squires, a devoted father of three (10, 9, 8) and a loving husband to Maria, received the devastating diagnosis of stage IV glioblastoma, an aggressive and fast-growing brain tumor. Given the tumor's location in Larry's frontal lobe and its rapid impact on his neurological and cognitive functions, surgery was deemed too risky.
Larry's love for music has always been a core part of who he is. Playing both the piano and classic and electric guitars, he found solace and joy in creating melodies that resonated with his soul. After taking disability retirement, Larry decided to pursue his passion for music in a new way. He dedicated himself to learning the art of luthiery, with a dream of crafting guitars from repurposed old piano wood to give back to the community of veterans. This dream was born from his experiences in an Arts and Music Program, where he saw firsthand the positive impact music had on service members, veterans, and military families. Larry and our son, young Larry, even began working on their first ukulele together—a project that, heartbreakingly, will remain unfinished.
By June 6, 2024, Larry was placed in home hospice care, and we are now cherishing every moment we have left together. As we navigate this heart-wrenching journey, our focus is on providing Larry with the best possible quality of life, surrounded by the love and support of our family and friends.
The sudden and overwhelming expenses associated with Larry's care have added to our burden. We aim to reduce some of this financial strain so we can focus entirely on Larry's comfort and well-being. Contributions will be used for an in-home assistant to provide constant observation, meal preparation, household bills, essential items, groceries, and unforeseen costs related to his care and end-of-life needs.
We don't have a specific fundraising goal—every bit of support helps. Your generosity will make a profound difference in our lives during this incredibly challenging time. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your support and kindness. God bless you all.
