Larry Hayton's Emergency Bypass Surgery & Beyond..

Donation protected
On February 4, 2020 our dad went to his cardiologist due to some chest pressure and shortness of breath experienced when walking across the room. Cardiologist scheduled a heart catheterization and possible stent for Friday February 7, 2020.  During the procedure they found him 99% blocked and called for emergency bypass surgery.  The information provided by the vascular surgeon was pretty grim, telling our dad that he was very high risk and to have as many people at the hospital for his surgery as possible.  He needed both his carotid arteries cleaned out along with bypass surgery.  As you can imagine this came as a huge shock to our dad, mom and family.  For those who know dad, he is pretty active at his youthful age of 81. He loves bowling, golfing, singing in St. Clement’s choir and most recently taking up playing pool.

We immediately spread the word and rallied for prayers and support from our churches, co-workers, family and friends to help guide the surgeons and surgical teams at Fairview Hospital on Monday February 10, 2020 for a successful outcome.  The response and support we received was incredible.  Dad felt overwhelmed and thankful for all the blessings he received.  Father Andrew from St. Peters in North Ridgeville came Sunday afternoon and anointed him.  We were all ready the best we could be for a long day on Monday.

Monday February 10, 2020, day of surgery.  We were at the hospital around 6am and rallied around dad until they took him in around 10:30am.  During this time, my nephew Robert, my parents first born grandchild, held grandpa and grandma in his hands as well as the rest of us in the room with an incredible prayer!  It was a long and nerve racking day.

We were blessed during our wait as my sister Sandi’s friends from her church provided lunch for our group and my brother-in-law Jim brought us dinner.  We were very thankful for both as we needed that to help us through the long day.

Surgeons informed us on Tuesday that dad had come through the surgery well.  They took him off ventilator and completed some tests to verify he was OK.  They got him sitting up and trying some broth.  The physical therapist got dad standing and took a few steps.  It’s amazing how fast they want you to move after such a traumatic event!

Shout out to his 2 surgical teams, my dad was a person to them not just another surgery! The doctor and nurses in the ICU were OUTSTANDING!

Dad was in the ICU for 4 days then moved to the cardiac care unit, where he remained until February 19th (total of 12 full days in the hospital).  Doctors are happy with his progress.  Thank God he had no setbacks or complications!

We ask for your generosity in helping us raise money for the HUGE medical bills from this unexpected surgeryHe will also be undergoing a 2nd carotid surgery in roughly 1 month.  Recovery from these surgeries will have expenses of medical/hospitalization, physical therapy, home care providers and long term medications.  They have Medicare but no other supplemental or prescription drug plan.  The road to recovery will be hard and that’s what they need to concentrate all their efforts on, not about how they’re going to pay these bills.  Please help us by donating and sharing this campaign everywhere. We greatly appreciate any amount you are able to give and if you are unable to give we ask for your continued prayers for both his emotional and physical strength.

My parents will be celebrating 60 years together on April 23, 2020 so we thank God for watching over our dad and keeping him with us.  They truly ARE the GLUE that keeps us all together!  Over the past weeks  I've seen posts from their grandchildren who have their sights set on trying to become even a little bit of the married couple that the two of them are!

He’s still in a lot of pain and has a long recovery ahead of him.  We want to thank every single person that prayed to keep these two hands together! They’ve been together for almost 60 years and no one was ready to have them separated! Everyone out there from all of our individual churches, co-workers, additional family and friends helped the doctors keep these two hands together through surgery. Every single member of the Hayton family cannot thank you all enough for what you’ve done and know that we felt each and every prayer and all of the love from you all!
