Husband, Papa, Brother, Uncle – He is all these things but first and foremost he is our dad.  After losing our mom in 2006 to heinous brain cancer, we are crushed to watch our father deal with lymphoma and chemo treatments.  He was finally able to retire in late 2016 at 74, fulfilling his dream of moving from Florida to Maine to enjoy the clean fresh air and to even get used to snowy winters for the first time in his life.

Earlier this summer he was diagnosed with B-Cell Lymphoma.  The shock cannot be overstated and to hear him more concerned about how he was going to pay for treatment than how he was going to get well breaks our hearts.  He went back to work and it working part time even during chemo.  Some days are good.  Some days are not.

Our story is not unique.  I’m not sure there’s a family out there who hasn’t had to cope with cancer.  And like so many others, my father is a hardworking man, dedicated to his family, who had private insurance his entire life, and cancer came when he was otherwise healthy, happy, and content.  Like every cancer diagnosis, it’s brutally unfair.

He’s a proud man and his agreement to let his children set up this page for him speaks to how worried he is about paying for the treatment he needs.  We are hopeful that friends, family, and the online community will help with his medical expenses not covered by Medicare.

Please help us help our dad have less worry by contributing even a small amount to his GoFundMe page to help with his Medicare out-of-pocket costs for this year - $7,350.  Cancer treatment is extraordinarily expensive and, as an example, each Neulasta after-chemo patch is a $1,100 copay which is the least of the expenses to come.

I will provide updates on his status via this page on a regular basis.  He is in a cycle of intravenous chemo treatments that will continue through October.

If we are lucky enough to exceed the dollars needed to pay his bills, the balance will be used for his 2019 Medicare out-of-pocket.  Any donations beyond those costs will be donated to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Thank you for reading our story and considering a donation.
