We are producing the pilot episode for a dramatic web series called WAITING FOR THE LARK .
This will be first in a series of six episodes.
THE STORY
Waiting for the Lark tells the story of a renegade coastal community of artists, musicians, circus performers, teachers, and carpenters. Some have even embraced social media - and a rather exotic Brazilian cooking show is webcast from a makeshift studio. Together they have rebuilt a series of abandoned beach cottages that had been damaged in a storm.
Waiting for the Lark could be described as a punk rock Downton Abbey - imagine if the Dowager Countess of Grantham was played by Patti Smith instead of Maggie Smith. Now that you have imagined such a thing meet Cynthia.
Cynthia is the matriarch of the community and has a deep love of hats, social order, and pragmatism. She leads the community in its fight for survival against the natural elements, a corrupt city hall, and devious property developers.
Their cause is further hampered when a much-loved member of the community falls under suspicion of murder. We refer to Waiting for the Lark as a tale of rising seas, rising rents, and a rising murder rate.

SOCIAL RELEVANCE ON A DARK AND STORMY NIGHT
Waiting for the Lark is a story of our time. It chronicles how artists, teachers, and ordinary working folk who could once prosper in the city are now forced, in the face of insane rents and a diminishing job market, to find creative solutions to make just everyday life possible.
This theme informs the whole series as the characters become embroiled in a classic tale of mystery with some rather deranged twists, turns, and swivels.
THE CAST AND MUSICIANS
We have assembled a wonderful cast that includes legendary San Francisco jazz musician Ralph Carney. Ralph has performed and recorded with such incredible artists as Tom Waits, Elvis Costello, The Black Keys and most recently St. Vincent. Ralph plays a curmudgeonly jazz musician who teaches music lessons in the community. His music also provides the themes and atmospheres for the show.

Additional music is provided by The Dead Sailor Girls whose haunted, ethereal songs of the sea weave in and out of the story.

ABOUT THE PRODUCERS
Adrian Smith and Adrienne Doherty produced the online children’s series *Rainboot Cove. This show has been used in schools across the country. The show blended beautiful hand drawn illustration with live action to relate events that happen locally in our time to those that have happened on a grand scale throughout history. The combination of illustration and live action will again be embraced for Waiting for the Lark.

Adrian and Adrienne also created Naked by the Sea (Sometimes). This combined animation created originally in oil paint, with text, and original music. It has been featured on many significant art sites and nominated for several awards.

Adrian Smith also works in corporate and educational video and multimedia. He has produced work for such clients as Johnson & Johnson, Chegg, The New York Times, BabyCenter, and The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Adrienne Doherty is a designer, illustrator, and artist. Her commercial work includes projects for Apple, Sephora, Clorox, and many non-profit art organizations (and the occasional circus).
YOUR MONEY AT WORK
Money raised from this fundraiser will be spent on post-production for the pilot episode. It will help pay for (amongst other things) the editing, animation, special effects, sound design and mixing.
As producers we have invested half of the money needed to produce the pilot episode from our own funds. This is in addition to the time spent developing the script, holding auditions, and pulling our hair out.
The total budget for the pilot episode is $7,000. We are looking to raise the additional $3,500.
GOALS FOR THE PROJECT
Upon completion of the pilot episode of the show we will build a substantial fan base. This will allow for the series to become self-sustaining through continued crowdfunding (a small donation to see the next episode), monetization from advertising, YouTube etc.
Our ambitions for the show go beyond the kind and generous world of crowdfunding. We will seek major media and network involvement for the continued series.
OF MONETIZATION AND BURIED TREASURE
Waiting for the Lark will be hosted on its own YouTube Channel and also have a dedicated website of its own.
On The Waiting for the Lark website there will be many opportunities for fan and advertiser engagement. There will be Lark related merchandise available and for the bargain price of $5.00 you can bury virtual treasure on our virtual beach. For $10.00 you can bury a body.
We are planning a substantial social media marketing campaign to promote the series and boost viewership.
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU
All donors will be thanked in the credits for the show and potentially awarded a pair of socks (amongst other goodies).
Waiting for the Lark: A Tale of Rising Tides, Rising Rents, and a Rising Murder Rate.
Thank you for you consideration.
