Lari's Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Hello everyone! My sister and brother-in-law might not be thrilled about me sharing this online, but as the big sister, I feel it's my responsibility to do so. They've been through some tough times over the past nine months, and now, they could really use some support.
For those of you who aren't familiar with my younger sister, her name is Christina. She's married to Lari, and they have three fun and charismatic children - Lukas, Lincoln, & Carlie.
Recently, my brother-in-law Lari received a double diagnosis of Lymphoma, which has been a significant challenge for their family. He's currently undergoing chemotherapy, and due to his health condition, he had to put a halt to his work. If you know Lari, you know he's a dedicated family man and a hard worker.
To assist with their day-to-day living expenses and medical bills, I've created this GoFundMe page. Lari still has a tough road ahead, but we remain optimistic that he can overcome this "bump in the road."
No contribution is too small, and we genuinely appreciate your thoughts and prayers.
Christina's recent post on Facebook:
NINE MONTHS AGO, Lari was given nine months to live. Maybe 11 to 17 months if he's "lucky." We were transparent with our kids and didnt want to keep them from what was to come. A biopsy confirmed Lari had an aggressive brain tumor known as Astrocytoma or Glioblastoma/Glioma. All brain tumors are categorized as stage 4 and have a very poor prognosis. Most ppl dont live past 18 months. The one's that do live longer were the one's that were lucky enough to surgically remove parts of the tumor or the 'entire' tumor. Even then, because of the nature of brain tumors, they will eventually return. Of course, this was all statistics. To make matters worse, Lari had a rare tumor called Diffuse Midline Glioma. The tumor is more common in young children and he was considered a "young adult" at the age of 41. Being that the tumor was so rare, inoperable and happened to a middle aged man, there was not enough information. Not enough studies. The mutations were newly discovered and "children" also do not live past 2 years. I felt numb. I was petrified. I felt weak and this wasn't even happening to me. I cant even imagine what Lari was feeling. No words in the dictionary could describe how we felt. We immediately joined forums, did extensive research, and got second and third opinions. MD Anderson in Texas being one, and the other: Mayo Clinic. Although we decided to get care in town, the other two hospitals requested to follow Lari's case. Lari underwent high dose radiation for approximately seven weeks. At the end of radiation, we received nothing but GREAT news. Lari's brain tumor decreased in size and responded very well to radiation & they've never seen ANYTHING like it! We were so overwhelmed with joy, relief, all the words in the dictionary and some more. Days later, we received a call from Mayo. Mayo stated they'd received the brain tissue a few wks prior and just completed their pathology report. According to Mayo, Lari has Lymphoma, a different type of cancer. WHAT?! Lari had just received such a high dose of radiation for the brain & now, will be needing chemotherapy. Confused and defeated, once again. We were determined to beat all odds, yet again, there was another card dealt.
As of today, Lari's official diagnosis is Lymphoma, cancer in the lymph nodes. For sure a better prognosis, more than 2 yrs! OR a possible cure. We're happy, however, had we known it was Lymphoma in the first place, radiation would've never been the first standard of care option. Lari has two separate types of Lymphoma: Primary CNS Lymphoma, Large B Cell in the brain (1) and Follicular Lymphoma in the body(5 tumors). Lari is still undergoing (two separate) chemo treatments; one for the brain and the other for the body. He's taking chemo pretty well so far and has been such a warrior. Please continue to pray for Lari. He will also be undergoing Stem Cell Transplant @ Mayo soon. If you know anyone who's done this procedure, please let us know!!! We'd love to connect and hear real life experiences as this is another intense treatment.
We feel like this is all new to us still, but definitely reach out if you know someone who relates and would like someone to talk to. It's a scary thing to even process but we can definitely get thru this together. I'm thankful to have met so many ppl along this journey. I felt hopeless and was desperate, I connected with ppl with similar experiences within MN and even went as far as Germany and the UK. It meant so much to me to have others share with me their knowledge and experiences. After all, we had the same objective- to save a life; whether it was our own or someone we love(d).
Thankful to have our families and close friends that support us in all ways possible. Life isn't always black and white and there are many uncertainties, but to see how much Lari is loved while he is still alive, certainly is immeasurable. Last but not least, GOD IS GOOD
