Lara’s road to recovery

Hello friends, family, and kind strangers,
My name is Jack and I am proud to call myself the partner of Lara, who, if you are lucky enough to know her, will know she is the far stronger, better and kinder half of our duo.
I am incredibly sad to say that Lara has been involved in a life-changing car accident at work. As a result, her right leg has had to be amputated. What matters the most at the moment is that she is alive and recovering, and each day she is getting a bit stronger and a bit more able.
The injuries she withstanded will change both our lives forever, as well as our nearest and dearest whom we cannot thank enough for their support.
Our life before this accident was incredible, full of the things we loved such as travelling, walking, land rovering, etc
When she came around after the surgery, one of the first things she said to me was that she didn’t want to sell her beloved Land Rover Defender 300TDI. It is a passion we both share spend most weekends under the bonnet, chassis, or behind the wheel.
Alongside the numerous mountains that now face Lara on her road to recovery, driving the defender again is of course a huge one.
If you are lucky enough to own a Land Rover, you might have some appreciation as to how much Lara loves this car. It is her absolute pride and joy!
Adapting the defender for Lara to drive it again requires a huge amount of time and money. The Land Rover would need an automatic transmission, a new wiring kit, a fitting kit and a new pedal fabricated which would allow her to use her left leg for the brake and accelerator, among other things. I estimate the cost of these parts alone to come to £7000. Having the Land Rover to drive when she is well enough, I know will really give her something to look forward to. At the moment it feels as though everything she loves doing has been taken away, but adapting the Land Rover would prove to her that everything she loves is still doable, just with a bit of extra tinkering.
I never imagined in a million years I would be writing this, asking people I have never even met to contribute even the smallest amount, for Lara to be able to still do the one thing she loves the most; drive her Land Rover.
Any money you might be able to contribute will go towards her recovery and getting the Land Rover adapted for her to be able to drive it. As you might be able to imagine, there are a huge amount of costs that go into helping Lara get back to her life. Alas, it will be YEARS till we see any insurance money from the driver at fault, and her work is doing everything they can to support her.
I work as a TMO and am going to have to be signed off work for a while as I help Lara make a recovery. Of course, I won’t be getting paid while I am not working, and while I can make myself useful by supporting her in any way she needs, and working on the Land Rover, as anyone with a Land Rover knows, these things don’t pay.
Even if you aren’t able to contribute, thank you so much for taking the time to read this. If you are able to contribute even the smallest amount, it will make the biggest difference to her life moving forward.
Thank you on behalf of both of us,
Jack and Lara
