I have been travelling to Ghana to volunteer since 2022 helping in English language, for primary and junior high schools initially with charities/NGO's. In 2024 I helped with the formation of a girls empowerment club which now has over 50 members and runs every week. On my latest visit I decided to visit a rural village in SE Ghana near to the Togo border independently and work with the local school; again with English language and reading classes but also the setting up of a library. It is with this school near the town of Dzodze that I hope to establish a computer lab. Although Computer studies is a core subject there is no provision for the teachers to educate the pupils and therefore they have to resort to drawing the functions of a computer, hardware etc. on the blackboard! This school is fortunate to have a classroom which we can turn into a permanent lab. There is power (when there isn't an outage!) and also ceiling fans. I have identified and hope to secure 30 Geobooks (with battery power when power cut is happening) which are used for education in UK schools to ship along with chargers and other hardware/software to help with teaching the subject. Collaborating with a computer business in Torquay these laptops will have the latest Windows 11 PRO installed along with Microsoft Office and educational programs. We hope this may help these children to gain usable skills in this tech minded world and place them in a strong position for employment once they finish their studies. Future plans for internet access via starlink is planned to connect online. With your help we can make this happen.
