Laptops for London's young people.
Donation protected
Young people have been deeply affected by the impact of the pandemic, especially where their education is concerned. Moving education online, while absolutely necessary, has highlighted the economic disadvantages that many young people face.
The campaign
The focus of this campaign is to help young people in education who find themselves digitally excluded and provide them with the devices they desperately need.
Young people can be digitally excluded in a number of ways, we define this as:
• Not having a laptop / device/tablet to work on, nor the means to buy one; and/or:
• Being unable to connect to the internet at home due to the inherent cost
With the start of the third UK lockdown, it has become more apparent that many young people are still unable to access the digital provision their schools are offering.
We intend to raise a minimum of £10,000 to buy brand new devices for young people across London. This will include Primary Schools, Secondary Schools and Further Education institutions.
How to achieve this
Covid is significantly increasing the inequality gap. Using the generosity of those who donate, and working with Local Education Authorities, tech organisations, charities and schools, we will prioritise getting devices to young people who are currently unable to access online education and ensure that the campaign helps those most in need.
We aim to build on the amazing work which has already been done across previous lockdowns to get our young people online.
Connection
In this latest lockdown we understand that not only is there a lack of devices available but it has also become apparent our most marginalised children cannot access the internet, via WIFI or data which is a considerable problem.
We are delighted that a number of mobile data providers have joined an initiative for schools to request free mobile data increases for families who don't have broadband at home or can't afford extra data.
