Mohammed is a refugee and a student at QUT. He is studying law and is doing the best he can with his limited English.
Unfortunately, Mohammed lives very far from campus (2 hour public transport everyday) and he travels to campus everyday to study because he does not have a laptop or even wifi at home.
I’ve seen Mohammed practically camp at uni for days. He brings spare clothes and sleeps in the library (especially during exam period) simply because he cannot complete his studies at home with no computer and the trains stop at a certain time at night.
The equity support at QUT denied his financial help laptop request because he is not a citizen yet.
Mohammed’s financial situation only meets his basic requirements (food, rent) so he hasn’t been able to save up either.
I want to make sure he successfully completes his studies and this means having a reliable laptop to work on his studies in the comfort of his home just like the rest of us.
