On 8/28, our 1.5-year-old baby boy Lapis fell from our 10th-floor balcony. When we reached him, he was covered in blood, his jaw was hanging completely open, and one of his front legs was so severely broken that it looked like it could fall off.

He suffered catastrophic injuries: both lungs collapsed, multiple fractures to his jaw and face, a complete break in one front leg and a fracture in the other, a fractured pelvis, severe contusions to his ribs, lungs, and mouth, and multiple broken and lost teeth.

Lapis has already undergone emergency jaw surgery and orthopedic surgery to try to save his right front leg, where the bone broke through the skin. We are praying the bone fusion succeeds so he won’t need an amputation. He still faces additional surgeries expected to cost $10,000–$20,000+.

And now, after everything he has survived, he is fighting a third urinary blockage. He has been in critical care for four days, and his doctors are recommending PU surgery to help prevent future life-threatening blockages.

So far, his veterinary care has cost $43,132.48, and the bills are still growing.

But Lapis isn’t the tragedy that happened to him, he is a fighter. If all goes well, he will still live a rich, full life. He has an enormous heart and has touched everyone who has cared for him. He was even voted GCVS’ Patient of the Month. We have two other kitties at home who are waiting for their little brother to come home, and our entire family is fighting alongside him.

We are profoundly grateful to the Gulf Coast Critical Care, Orthopedic, and Emergency teams, Veterinary Dental Specialists, Modern Animal, and every person who has cared for Lapis as if he were their own.

If you can help us give this little fighter a chance to come home, please donate or share his story. Even a small donation can help us get one step closer. If you can’t donate, sharing this page or keeping Lapis in your prayers means just as much to us.

Please help us fight for Lapis. ❤️
