The Lapides cabaret is proud to present “Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner,” a theatrical appraisal of new work by new writers - in person, totally safe and irredeemably worthwhile :)

Featured in the September 2021 hosted reading is the full-length play “210 19th Street,” written by Boston writer Jesse C. Tolbert, the play addresses themes of equity, nuclear satiety, and human error. ‘Here, we have a chance to be something greater – on 19th Street,’ is an idea and a central theme that the drama revolves around directly.

When we think about the kind of theater we want to experience, we also have to think of our appetites. What’s good for us - what whets the palate and what tastes good! Seldom do we have the opportunity to connect with one another in a meaningful and exciting way. The world has changed considerably in the past year, and while many things will never be the way they once were, there is so much hope for the future: New laughter, new growth, and new and exciting experiences!

Our first hosted reading has been sponsored by Northeastern University theater department. In a lot of ways this is our first in-kind donation! Our readings are set for 12pm and 4pm September 19th, 2021. We have about 500 seats that we need to fill, and of course, we’d love to see you there! We’d also like to be able to give back to the department, in terms of a donation, and to continue building the ground floor for our cabaret showcase.

The total budget for a produced showcase is between $30,000 and $50,000, and we’re aiming to raise most of this as a result of ticket sales and pre-orders just from these four shows to begin with. How you can chip in: sponsors are encouraged to donate a name and a worthwhile cause to our promotional materials. Just a name and a small blurb about the kind of work you’ve done pre-pandemic and the way this work has changed for the better, and we’d love to have you. In-kind donations and cost-match structure asks that partners and audiences donate between 50-100 to reserve tickets to our readings and hosted showcases. Then, once we’ve made our budget in total and our audience has been able to see the show, we want to hear from you! A short memo, text, email or voice note about your experience with the piece will help up to continue to secure interest in the cabaret and continue to bring this kind of cutting-edge work to life!

This is the suggestion, of course, but anything helps. Ticket bundles are encouraged for larger organizations, and are priced starting at $50, ranging from anywhere up to $500 in expected donations, at 25 seats per bundle: so that even if you aren’t able to see the show, you and your organization can provide seating to those who can.

One of our first sponsors is Mamaleh’s Delicatessen in Kendall Square, Cambridge. They’ve agreed to donate a corrigible gift to help with bringing interest to the production! Check them out at Mamalehs.com, and check out the Lau Lapides Company for more information! https://laulapidescompany.com/

Thank you, and we’ll see you at the show!
