LAPD and LAHSA made me homeless!
Donation protected

My name is Taniel (Gina) Adams. I've lived in Venice for 5 years now. For the last 2 years I've been living in my van (by choice) and have had no problems with parking or police until last Wednesday. While I was at work I got a call from a friend saying they were towing my van. I arrived back BEFORE they had it attached to the tow truck and therefore should have only had to move it and pay a parking ticket, but for whatever reason the cops wouldn't allow me near it nor did they even ask me if I could move it. They just assumed that it didn't run and blocked me from even getting close to it.
They left me on the street corner with nothing but the clothes on my back, my purse and a business card from the towing company. My entire life is in my van and they took it from me without a second thought, and without warning.
It's going to cost approximately $1,172 plus fees to get it out of the tow yard. I have $150 on hand to start and I work every day, but the daily storage fees make it almost impossible to catch up.
I'm not the type of person to ask for help, generally, especially when it comes to money, but I'm at a dead end.
My friend would like to add:
My name is Patti Brodeur and I have lived in Venice most of my life. I met Taniel after the pandemic and was impressed by her outgoing and helpful nature. She was affected by covid and ended up in tent until a friend helped her to get off the street by giving her a van. She made a nice little home for herself and her sweet little dog Luna. She was quiet and low key and a positive presence to the neighborhood. She works almost everyday and never had any problems until they towed her home away. Now once again she is homeless. She can get her van back and has done everything required but the fees are high and everyday get higher. She always goes above and beyond to help those around her without any thought for herself and now she needs a little help to raise enough to get her van out of the tow yard asap before she loses everything she owns and the only home she can afford.
