We are now planning for phase two of the LAOT project, the figuring of the primary mirror. This is the most costly and difficult stage of the process. This is where the glass becomes the actual mirror of the telescope. Once completed the only thing left it to built the telescope! So now, we are reaching out to raise the final $3000 we need to finish the primary mirror.
Once completed the LAOT will be one of the largest dedicated mobile outreach telescopes in Arizona, possibly even the west coast. With its 28” primary mirror the the LAOT will gather 35% more light than the famous Clark refractor at Lowell observatory and over 5X as much light as the Griffith Park telescope in Los Angeles. This will allow students and the public to discover the universe is amazing detail with their own eyes!
Focus looks to bring an observatory grade telescope to everyone. We want people to experience the night sky the way astronomers want to. A large telescope such as the LAOT will provide views of galaxies, nebule and star clusters like only a large telescope can. We want people to leave our events with memories they can share for a life time. Memories that have seeded the passion and drive the Focus team was originally inspired by. Help us share that passion and grow the interest in astronomy. Help us complete this project, we have never been closer!LAOT Webpage
