Hi, I’m Christian and two years ago I started working on Lanka Kaps. On a family vacation to Sri Lanka, I learned the country’s centuries-old mask-making industry was imperiled by lack of demand. Knowing the prices online for truly artisanal keycaps, I began talking to a mask-maker in Galle about adapting his designs. After navigating the multi-continent complexities of fundraising, prototyping, and logistics, we finally launched Lanka Kaps this year — a nonprofit that pays a community of women in Heenatigala living wages to make the keycaps, with all proceeds benefiting their children’s educations (www.lankakaps.com).
