On Friday, Lani underwent surgery to reinsert her medical port and receive a spinal tap. That same day, we received the heartbreaking news that her leukemia has returned for the third time. This relapse has come in the form of a mass in her brain, along with leukemia cells found in her spinal fluid. She received her first dose of chemotherapy Friday night, and we are preparing to fight this aggressively. The plan is to move forward with intensive chemotherapy and, in the near future, a bone marrow transplant. Her parents will be tested to see if one of them is a match to be her donor.
Through all of this, Lani remains in good spirits. Last night she said, “I just tell myself I got this — and usually when I do, it works out.” That’s the strength and courage she is carrying into this battle. Laura has taken a leave of absence from work to be by Lani’s side during this critical time. Drake is standing by them as we begin this long road once again. While we don’t know why this has happened, we do know the journey ahead will be emotionally, physically, and financially challenging.
We are asking for your prayers, encouragement, and support to help ease the burden of medical expenses, travel, and lost income so they can focus entirely on Lani’s care and recovery. If you feel led to give, share, or pray — we are deeply grateful. Lani says she’s “got this.” And we believe her.
