Leilani or Lanie is a mom of three and a grandmother of 2. Right before her 60th birthday, she was hospitalized and was diagnosed with congestive heart failure and COPD. She was told that her heart muscles are not fully functioning resulting to cardiomegaly or enlarged heart. She went home and did her best to recuperate. Lanie is a typical Filipino mom who prides herself in preparing laborious meals and doesn’t sit around and watch TV until all chores are done. She is so used to her independence that asking for help from family members is difficult. Her health fluctuates since August 2019. There were days she had a lot energy and some days that even talking on the phone could be too taxing. Two days ago she had an upset stomach resulting to diarrhea. She became severely dehydrated and went to hypovolemic shock, which is a life threatening situation. Right now, she is on a waiting list for ICU admission. Her heart is weak and constant monitoring is needed. She is currently responsive but still speaks incoherently.
