Langley Park Community

The Catholic Community of Langley Park, which is part of St. Camillus parish, is a spiritual center for thousands of families in Langley Park. It is also a place where those who experience serious financial emergency crises seek help with their rent payment or utilities bill.

All are welcome regardless of creed, race, and immigration status. On average, in any one month, 250 families get food assistance and 10-15 families receive emergency financial assistance. About half of these families have one parent who has been deported. Langley Park is the most densely populated area of Prince George’s County. Between 17,000 - 30,000 people live there.

● The vast majority of the residents of Langley Park are recently arrived immigrants from Central America, mostly from Guatemala.
● Two-thirds of adults lack a high school diploma.
● The child poverty rate in Langley Park (23%) is more than twice the rate in Maryland.
● The median income of Langley Park families with children is typically
less than a third of the median for all Maryland families with children.
● Nearly 60% of Langley Park residents do not have health insurance.
● The immigrant families in Langley Park receive very little support from the federal safety net. The vast majority of these immigrant families will not be receiving any financial “stimulus” support from the
government.

This project will go directly towards the efforts to alleviate the needs of Langley Park Community residents during this time. Thank you for your generous donation.
