There’s a fascination with Superheroes – ones who wear capes, ones who don’t, ones who fly, ones who swim, ones who can do it all. Meet our superheroine – Elaine Martinez. Elaine was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer during the pandemic. When she had her surgery to remove it, the docs found that it was everywhere. Did she back down? No. She came up swinging against astronomical odds and came out on top. In June of 2021, Elaine got the all clear! Boy we were all ecstatic!! She was officially in remission. She still continued to get checkups and tests just to confirm all was well. Flash forward to almost two months ago. Our Laney woke up from sleep having a seizure on the left side of her body. She went to the hospital and was given the heart breaking news that the cancer had travelled to her brain. She fought and advocated to be transferred to Mass General where her team of doctors is and when a Superhero speaks, people listen. Once she got there, after more tests, the cancer was confirmed. Elaine had to endure two surgeries to attempt to remove the tumors. The first went well, but the second left her partially immobile on her left side. And even worse, the surgeon was unable to get all the tumors without critically wounding Elaine. So that brings us to now, Elaine is a FIGHTER. She has begun an aggressive radiation treatment to bring down those tumors. At home are her amazing husband, Nelson, who has tirelessly been holding the fort down at home as well as making the treks to Boston to see Elaine and consult with her doctors. Her two children, Tristan and Sienna, haven’t been able to spend much time at all with their Mom since this all hit again. This is family who would never ask for help, but help is needed to cover expenses for gas and items to prepare the home for her return (we all know insurance does not cover everything). So we, her friends, are asking you for whatever you can give to help ease the pain of some of the expenses. All proceeds will go directly to the Martinez family.
