Lane's Recovery Fund After Being Hit By A Car

Just before Christmas 2018 I was walking in my neighborhood when I was violently hit by a car who wasn't looking at me crossing the street at the crosswalk. Sadly, the person who hit me with the car was not a great person, and laughed at me and tried to get away with it. It was not awesome. 


I’ve since had over 25 surgeries and procedures (I’ve genuinely lost count) on my neck, back, and knee, including knee surgery that removed my entire meniscus. And doctors have suggested a possible spinal fusion surgery on my back where they would remove some of my spine which were...words I heard someone say. I’ve been to hundreds of doctors appointments and physical therapy appointments, and countless therapy appointments, to heal from this.


Getting hit by the car forced me to give up a ton of work, which was then compounded by the pandemic that forced me to cancel two year's worth of tour dates and a lot of additional work. And I’ve been dealing with all of this alone up until this point. 


I did receive a settlement, but it took me 2 years to get it and I had to pay legal fees, past medical debt, and survival during a pandemic as a live performer. And healing from severe injuries without proper support physically and emotionally, means it's that much more expensive. 


Insurance does cover some of my current procedures, however I hadn’t had proper medical care until now and because of that, the injuries have gotten worse. As a result, I’m now experiencing nerve damage, endocrine damage, and other really scary things because of having such severe untreated injuries. Many of the treatments that might work really well in my case are not covered by insurance, so I hadn’t tried them yet. And there’s no telling what the lifelong implications of my injuries will be like.


A friend suggested I put together a fund to help me recover fully in every possible way and feel like I’m not alone in this. It has been an extreme struggle to have to make multiple doctors and surgical appointments every week, and attend them, navigate insurance, medications, severe pain, make enough money to survive, and feed myself, and care for my dog, for the last 2+ years alone. And then doing it during a pandemic. 


This fund would be used for any medical appointments that aren't covered by insurance including out-of-network treatments, visits to specialists, lost wages, pre-made meals, transportation, physical therapy equipment, pain management treatments, therapy, and anything else that would shoulder some of the weight of having to go through this alone for the foreseeable future.
